This law is not lovingly provided to release, not for the willful sinner Adam, but for Adam’s offspring, who, without any choice of the matter, suffered the effects of his law.
God did this in harmony with the legal principle that he later included in the Mosaic Law, namely, that he will be forsaken. Let us see how that principle applies in the ransom provided to Jesus Christ.
God, who only could provide the ransom price for what Adam has bought? Well, Adam was a perfect human, so in exchange for what he lost, there must be also a purpose for human life, and we know that this was Jesus. Yeah, because he was born in the flesh, and he became a perfect human because he…
Well, what would we say?
He didn’t have a need of a human father.
Well, I would say that his inheritance was not from Adam, and his inheritance was not from the man on earth, so his inheritance, he didn’t have that interest, so therefore he was a perfect person. And for this perfect person, he became a perfect sacrifice.
And I’ve always thought of that question, so why did Jesus have to be born as a human? That’s the part I would explain in this book.
And so, because of all this, he was qualified to offer his life as a correspondent?
Mm-hmm.
I’ll read that one. Oh, it’s your turn here.
Yeah. because they all are sinners and they have no right to human life that they can sacrifice on behalf of others. So God sent his own son to the earth. Jesus was born as a human because it was a human life that was required. The fool was born of old the age of a human father so that he would be perfect as Adam was.
God alone was the father of the human Jesus as he had also been Adam’s father, thus Jesus fully qualified to offer his life as a corresponding anthem.
I will start at the next page and see if anything comes up. And let’s start with Tom. Can you look into it? I don’t know if Tom would have any questions on this matter. If you did, we’d like to hear it.
Yeah, this is good, Tom. Make an effort to sit down.
There could be questions even throughout all the studies. If there’s anything that you’re questioning and would like to have a better explanation, I mean, if you would put it back, it would make the study that more interesting, too.
Well, I’m looking forward to some questions from Tom and your wife, and I’m sure that you’re capable of doing it. When you get to this, this is maybe a sixth year, maybe.
More than that. I think it’s seven.
There may be seven applications here of studies.
So, when you connect to this one here, if you have any questions, you could probably tape it to us. We’d be glad to hear from you. I’d love to have one, too. You can, Dad.
Hmm? Tell me about it. I’m going to follow the study with your organization that has this information link. I don’t know if that’s because of the work that we do or the thing that we do, it’s how we go about it. I think that’s what it is.
Express yourself to others in your community. You have to share it with others. It is important to give an access to your people. It is your role to hold on to people in all of your communities, and all the things that we do.
We are…
Moving through these kinds of things, as they should be.
This is…
The following day, I taped that talk study over last night on a larger tape, and I see I didn’t—wasn’t going to have enough to finish it, so I had to put another thirty-minute tape for it to finish it off, so I decided I would get to you this morning, because I have a little bit of tape here now to talk on.
I’m on my way right now into STEMCO.
Well, you know, Stuart, after listening to this study and searching out the difference between false teaching and true teaching and understanding, you can understand why I, when I was sent in and served with the Batchelor, see what I’ve seen. I came back, you know, from Sherbrooke, made a special trip up to see Mr.
Cross, because I had lots of confidence in Cross in the past. Being their minister from the time I was a baby, and listening to his views and preaching that he made on the platform, naturally I was, when I had a controversy of this type, I made up my mind that I should come and see him.
About 300 miles from Sherbrooke to Brockville at that time, and I got on the train and I went up to Clarence. In fact, I came into Brockville, got off the train, I walked downtown, I didn’t know where Clarence lived, I knew he was around someplace. And I met him on the street.
And I explained to him what I wanted to see him for, and he said, well, come on down to my place and we’ll have supper. It was sometime in the afternoon at that time, I think around 3 or 4 o’clock.
He didn’t tell me that he had some ministers there, that there was a revival or something going on at the time. But anyhow, we got into his house. He made me acquainted with some man, I don’t know who he was now, I don’t remember the man.
And they had supper already, didn’t we? And he sat down and he made me acquainted with this fella, and I think his wife, Mrs. Cross, was there. And he says to this fella, he says, well, he says, we have Willard here now, and he says he’s been all confused and mixed up and we want to straighten him out.
And so I thought, well, boy, this is all right, this is what I wanted, because I had been studying then for a bit of time in Sherbrooke with one of the servants down there, a special pioneer that was sent by the Watchtower people.
And I had never met anyone in the Watchtower organization until I had met a fella at Napanee, which I was running a little machine shop up there for a company, and he was a witness that was working there.
Him and I got talking one day and he expressed himself that he was one of Jehovah’s Witnesses, and I didn’t know who Jehovah’s Witnesses were up until that time. So we got into quite a discussion back and forth, and I was quite impressed with the things that he said.
And he had a book with him at that time, Let God Be True, one of the older publications. And he says you can find the information if you want to in this book if you have a chance to read it.
Now, of course, this was during working hours, so at noon hour we would just get in the car and I would read the book and ask questions and so on. But eventually I went into Sherbrooke, Quebec, and I worked for the Ingersoll Rand people down there.
Pardon me. Anyway, I got set in with the servant that was there in the congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Sherbrooke. And I didn’t know at that time that Quebec had the Witnesses under ban. That is, not legally, but they were doing everything in their power to stop their preaching work.
I didn’t know this.
I used to go to the—they had a house that they used as a kingdom hall in Sherbrooke. And there was quite a story behind the whole deal down there because Sherbrooke was under the ban, or not a legal ban, but a persecution by the Roman Catholic Church.
And they were doing everything. The priests and the police department was all in cahoots together. And it’s been proven out by many—in fact, they fought the cases down there because there were thousands of people in jail or hundreds of people in jail because of the preaching work.
And they were going from door to door, and the police down there would notify the police, and then the police would come and pick them up and put them in jail and not even give them a trial. And they were in there for months without even a hearing or any way to get out.
And of course, the society was fighting this issue.
I didn’t know this was the time I was talking to this man in Sherbrooke. And I used to go to that house, and they had the kingdom hall in the house. And when I had studied a few of the items, like what you had listened to last night, it sunk in.
I mean, I began to realize that there was something wrong with what I had been taught in the future or in the past. A lot of things that was very confusing to me. I just couldn’t understand why they could bring this point to me until I had believed all this before, not in the same way.
Like the Trinity teaching, and I remember when Clarence started the controversy in the area about Christ only. You remember they put out a little cross, a gold cross, and they had on it, Christ only. And I didn’t understand that. I was too young at the time, probably, but I hadn’t been informed of the proper understanding.
I went along with it, of course, but I couldn’t understand why all the confusion.
I couldn’t understand why Pentecost, and that’s what Marian had always felt, and Bob Parkinson and many others in our own family, and all the ones that break down that they had.
It bothered me, very much so. So when I found the people that were bringing in some of the facts to me and began to realize that there was something wrong in their thinking, and like that talk that you listen to here, you can understand why. I played this back here, Stuart, and I noticed that I had a little clicking noise from the ignition on the van.
I have the van with me down to Simcoe.
I had to come down to look at a boiler for a greenhouse man that called me last night or this morning, and so I came down.
I’ve been down here now. I’ve got the job finished, and I’m on my way back home. So I was just listening to a little bit of the conversation I gave you on the way down, and I noticed this noise. I’m going to try it again and see if I have a noise now.
Yeah, I put the recorder between my legs here on the seat, and I noticed now that it has stopped. I want to come back to the conversation I had, and I was telling you about going down to Brockville and seeing St. Lawrence Cross about some of the things that I had been learning and like what we believe now about Christ Jesus and about Jehovah God, and I thought that I would get good answers from Clarence, but when we sat down at the table, Clarence spoke up, and he says to this man—I can’t think of his name.
I don’t remember who the preacher was with him, but he says, Well, Willard here has got some problems, and he says I think we should get him going straight. He says I think there’s no problem to tell him and give him the answers to what his problem is, and so I thought to myself, Well, this will be fine.
Now I’ll get this straightened out. Well, first thing he done was he started to run down Russell and bring up all the dirt that he had heard, that is, the things that had been told about Russell, about what his character was, not scripturally talking at all.
It wasn’t anything about the Bible about it.
It was all about how bad a man he was, and when he got done with him, he started on Rutherford, and he said all the things that he had heard about Rutherford, and this was the answers that he was going to come to me with and straighten me out.
And then he said, Well, Willard, you don’t have to do anything, but he says come back to God in the way that you were when you were a boy, and he says you’ll be all right. Well, I couldn’t see this, George.
I had questions.
I had been studying the Bible.
I had learned from my mother many things that she had just talked to me about on a Bible standpoint, and she read her Bible continuously, as you know that. It wasn’t a day went by that she didn’t have the Bible, I don’t think, in her hands in some way or other.
And I knew the principles that was laid down from the Sermons on the Mount, from Christ Jesus’ teaching, and also the apostles, what they had went through and the persecutions that they went through. And the things that the Bible gives us a good basic understanding, now the four Gospels are good.
These are by the principles that was laid down by Almighty God himself, and he gave it to the writers, and the writers handed it down to you and I.
And this is right. This is the right thing to do, that also all the scriptures of the Bible was written. Bible says all things that happened to those back there was for us at this time of the like the Davidson and Saul and all those experiences that they had and the things that they had done that was wrong, and their wrongdoings, the Bible showed you give that information to us.
They would have something to go by and not be misled and not be in the dark.
So I went back down to Sherbrooke, and I started going back to the Kingdom Hall or this house that they had as a Kingdom Hall, and I used to take the servant that was in charge at that time, or that particular time of our history, he was a servant of the congregation.
They called them company servants then, and now they have elders and ministerial servants and they have several people that have dedicated their lives and have proved themselves and worked out all the necessary things to bring life to us through knowledge, because the Bible says knowledge is a defense, and knowledge is the way that we have to, that we’ve got to learn, then know by knowledge, otherwise what would we know, what did we learn when we went to church?
We learned not to swear, and not to steal, and not to commit adultery, and all the rest of it.
But why have we got so many religions? Why have we got over a thousand different types of religions in the world today? I think you have felt that there was good and bad in all these organizations, although Jehovah doesn’t deal that way, as I can understand from Bible understanding that Jehovah dealt with the people back in the days of the men of old, the Israelites was his chosen people, and Jehovah went with them and dealt with them, and as long as they stayed in line according to the rules that Jehovah had laid down, they had a blessing.
Today we get blessings if we stay in an understanding of the Bible principles, and then also if we adhere to the proper understanding. So we have a people that’s on the earth today, which is Jehovah’s organization, and we believe that they are the ones that are bringing up food in due time.
Well, I’m getting near home now, I’m just slowing down here.
So you see, Stuart, that talk or that study, there’s only one phase of understanding, there’s so many different subjects that you can talk about.
We already had a study on who is Jehovah, and this is important to know who the Almighty God is, the one that created all things, and then we have studies on the things that we have been taught, such as the hellfire teaching and the immortality of the living soul and all this here has been in the study.
This new book that we were studying from, that leads to eternal life, has about, I think, twenty-some subjects, and I’d like to send you that book, Stuart, and I think you must enjoy it, and it would be worth your while to search those, just like what we had been studying there with Tom Sennett, and there’s a subject here, how to identify the true religion.
You see, those things are necessary for us to prove, and to prove our relationship with Almighty God. Who are we serving?
I’m making another turn, I’m getting on number three highway here now, I’m not too far from home and I haven’t got much more tape left, I don’t think enough maybe to finish off here, but it is important that we search out the purposes that Jehovah has for his people.
Wouldn’t it be another wonderful thing when you think about that Jehovah has neglected his people, he has given enough insight to know what he has in store for us. We know that this earth here abides forever, we know that he is going to bring peace and happiness to his people on his subjects that are here on earth, that are going to go through the battle of Armageddon and fulfill the mandate that Adam lost, and bring a righteous kind upon the earth in harmony, where there will be no more wars, where there will be no more police necessary to protect it.
The locks will be open the door, we’ll build a vineyard and we’ll receive the fruits of it. And the Bible is full of this information, there’s no doubt about it that this is true.
And these subjects that we read, like this book, take our Bible along with us and study and search it out and you’ll find that Jehovah’s witnesses are telling the truth. And when you think of it, over 200,000 every year have dedicated their lives to serve Jehovah God until we have over 2 million worldwide today.
It is a wonderful thing when you get into big assemblies like we have.
We go to Toronto, in our area, I went to Toronto this year, and I have another assembly at St. Catharines, and they’re all over the world, spread out in a manner that people can get to them without too expensive. So in Toronto, we had about 18,000 there this year.
I had a boiler down there for to heat, cleaning and stuff like this. And well, it’s a wonderful thing that we can be with the people that is honest and true and faithful. And third, if there’s nothing else you do in life, don’t be prejudiced and don’t be so dogmatic that you feel that you have the right course when all is here, false teachings are in the mind.
By studying and searching out. Well, I’m just right here now at my place, and I’m pulling in here now. And if there’s anything left on this when I get home, and it’s late, 1 o’clock. In fact, I’m a little bit late, but I see Lucia stayed with Mother.
Good thing she did.
And I’m going to try and get this tape out this afternoon to you, Stuart, and put it in the mail.
So if there’s a little bit left here, I’ll still, there’s not very much now. There’s just a little bit on the end of this tape. So I’ll see you later. Okay?
Yeah, it’s 2.30 in the afternoon, and I’d like to get this taped over now a little bit that I put on the back end of this and send it out in the mail.
I went up to Marianne’s daughters, and we were talking yesterday about going down to the wedding, that is your anniversary, and we’ve got to make up our mind whether we’re going to be able to go or not, but she thought maybe we could make some arrangements to do it.
She’d like to come with me, and I can have her go along for something, and also she’d like to get out.
